U200i Watch

This has to be the most amazing watch ever. Under the clam shell is an amazing unlocked multimedia mobile phone. A 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a multimedia player (supporting music/videos/pics) are all packed into this little thing. Best of all, it doesn't have an LCD: that's a 1.5 inch touchscreen you're seeing on the inside. I wasn't expecting that. Externally, The steel casing looks great, but it's also available in black. Probably the funnest part of this watch is the rounded keypad. Looks pretty old school to me.

Some of the other amazing features on this watch:

•MP3/MIDI ringtones
•MP3 player with equalizer presets
•Integrated four speaker stereo sound
•E-Book Reader
JPG Viewer with photo inbuilt editor
Vioce memo functionality
•100 number telephone directory
SMS/MMS support
•Auto power off with JPG screensaver
•5 programmable alarm clocks
•Integrated health management application

The U200i only [haha] costs $234.99 here.

Verizon's LG enV2

The new upgrade for the LG enV! The sophomore version is pretty stylish with a slimmer design than the previous and comes in black or maroon casings. A quick rundown: it has a keypad, Mobile Web 2.0, V CAST Music and Video, Bluetooth, 2 speakers, and a 2.0 megapixel camera.

First of all, the enV2 is a lot slimmer than the previous version (about 15%). This was a great move on LG's part. Although less emphasis has been placed on the external display, which is primarily used for phone calls, the new design looks great with the compact exterior display and keys. It has a reasonably good 2.0 megapixel camera and camcorder with a very basic image editor. Inside the phone, the 2.4 inch display and QWERTY keypad is ideal for text messaging. Instant Messaging through AIM®, WL Messenger®, and Yahoo!® is a remarkable feature offered. Although the phone can browse the internet wirelessly, it's through Mobile Web 2.0. Not my first choice for a mobile browser. The phone does works great as a media player though, and it has a nice 8GB microSD card slot for music, pictures, and videos. Through Get It Now® you can "download games, ringtones, wallpapers and more."

Other "notable" features:

• Wireless Sync E-mail (BREW® e-mail Client) capability
• Supported Bluetooth Profiles – compatible with devices that support headset, hands-free, dial-up networking, advanced audio distribution (stereo), phone book access, basic printing, basic imaging, object push for vCard and vCalendar and file transfer
• Auto view and Text to Speech, so text messages can be heard aloud
• 1,000 address book contacts with five numbers, two e-mail addresses and a Picture ID for each entry (Picture ID is dependent on photos stored in My Pictures)
• Function Key – customizable for 10 shortcuts
• Up to 320 minutes of usage time or up to 520 hours of standby time
• Hearing aid compatible (M3/T3-Rating)

LG enV2 is already available at www.verizonwireless.com for $130 after a $50 rebate with a new two-year contract with Verizon.

Sanyo Katana LX

Sanyo announced the launch of their Katana LX. The sleek Clamshell phone has a slim design that comes in several colors. It has a great quality speakerphone, GPS, Bluetooth, and a still shot VGA camera. It also has a cool OLED display on the front with a 128x160 resolution. These sleek Sprint phones are coming out soon for around $50. Although is has a great design, it doesn't do much as a media player, and I wouldn't use it for much more than voice calls and text messaging.

Philips M600

This is definitely the music-oriented phone. It supports Midi, MP3, WMA, and AMR files, and on a single charge, it can play music for up to 40 hours before going out. Its SRS WOW effects offer enhanced sound quality with equalizer settings including Classical, Pop, Rock, and SRS WOW surround sound. The M600 has a 2-inch screen, 4-way navigation key, and music player keys. Since the M600 is aimed at the China mobile phone market, it has T9 text input in Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional as well as English, French, Russian or Turkish. It works with a Bluetooth, and USB 1.1, and it has a MicroSD card slot. Other features include: 1.3 megapixel camera, 3.5 mm Headset jack connector, and GPRS. Hopefully there will be a release in the U.S. and Europen markets as well.

LG Viewty

LG has just released a new Viewty in purple. More colors will be available this year in addition to black, silver, pink, and the new purple version.

In addition to the 3 inch touch screen, the phone is DivX-certified. That means you can expect high video quality. It pulls through with 120fps recording. Despite being a phone, the video capabilities are amazing:

• 30fps VGA, 262K TFT LCD
• Ultra High speed video capture (120fps)
• DivX Playback (up to VGA 30fps)
• H.264, H.263, MPEG4
• TV out

With the HSDPA 3.6 high speed internet, you can upload videos directly to YouTube which makes life so much easier. It also comes with a very nice 5 megapixel camera. One of the best features in my opinion. Since it's also an mp3 player, the 2GB MicroSD slot is great for listening to your portable tunes as the Viewty only has 100Mb of internal memory. Some other features include Bluetooth 1.2 and a handy jog wheel on the back for scrolling.

Overall, the Viewty seems to be an interesting digital-camera/touchscreen-phone crossbreed. The end product turned out to have quality features with bad storage capacity. Although it does have great resolution for both images and video, how far can you get with only 100MB? The 2GB MicroSD card can hardly compensate. Otherwise, the phone isn't that bad with a new line of colors and the whole YouTube-direct-upload thing.

$4000 Diamond Cosmic Shiner by Toshiba

Toshiba introduced the exclusive invitation-only Cosmic Shiner phone this week in Tokyo. It's basically a FanFun 815T model that has diamonds. There'll be only 1,000 of these limited edition models produced for sale through an invitation-only ploy by Toshiba. Suupossedly this will lure in, "more elite consumers who will also be entitled to a new Prestige Gold membership service."

The phone features design illustrations created by Kansai Yamamoto and comes with a handmade lacquer box. "Buyers will be required to purchase the April issue of Seven Hills magazine to get the required unique ID codes that will initiate the credit-card only purchase process for the $4000 luxury cellphone. further details about the Kyoto concierge membership service which will include various agency arrangements such as hotel and restaurant bookings as well as other special privileges, are due to be released in April only."

    Leaked Product Sheet: Motorola Z9

The Motorola Z9 is a new media player slider phone. This phone is amazing for one reason: it has the Opera 8 browser preinstalled. I can now recommend this phone to people.

The screen measures at 2.4 inches. Although it only has 45MB of internal memory, the microSD card can add an additional 8GB. Personally, I think the camera could have been 2 megapixels. It has flash and 8x zoom. Also notice the new keypad which is a welcomed upgrade from the buttons on the earlier July prototype that was leaked (stolen?).

Here is the leaked product sheet (click on the images for a larger view):

    LG Glimmer Phone

The Glimmer is "packed" with a cool rotating (see the pic) 2.8-inch touchscreen and 4GB of memory. Pretty iPhone-esque in my opinion. It has promising bluetooth and microSD capabilities. The camera is only 2 mega-pixels although it does have autofocus (if it makes a difference?).

    iPhone Telescope

Yes. This is a telescope. For the iPhone. To take better pictures. "The new design to run of rays can effectively avoid the contortion of image, and makes the super wide angle, the larger luminous flux, the higher visual acuteness, good for color reduction, which makes the high quality of photography." The iPhone telescope is priced at $20.59 at ipmart.com.

    Sony Ericsson T303

New Sony Ericsson phone everyone! The T303 Slider. It looks amazing...and it's a slider phone by the way...

"The stylish new T303 slider phone furthers Sony Ericsson’s commitment to broaden its appeal to a wider audience. Petite and good looking, it offers designer good-looks without the price tag to match."

The new GSM phone looks like it'll be great. It seems like Sony Ericsson has been on a roll lately with some great phones. The T303 has a 1.8” display and a slide out keypad (thus making it a slider). Featured is an awesome onboard media player and FM radio. The 1.3-megapixel camera isn't bad compared to the size of this thing. Most excitingly, the phone will be including USB mass storage. This a great feature for listening to tunes off of a USB device. Personally, I'd go with a USB storage device over a microSD card any day.

    Nokia N78

The N78 is a recent phone release by Nokia at the MWC.

"Sleek design, fully featured multimedia computer. Find your location faster with A-GPS. Automatically tag your images with capture location, and upload to the web to share with friends. Enjoy up to 24 hours of music playback, and share your music on your car or home stereo with the integrated FM transmitter. Carry your home images, music, podcasts and videos with you. Access the web more quickly and easily with 3.5G or WLAN connection."

It is the first Nokia phone with an FM transmitter. You can tune your car radio directly to the N78 and playback the media on the phone. This is a much more convenient alternative to installing a media player compatible stereo system.

    Sony Ericsson EXPERIA X1

The Blackjack II was an amazing example of what could be done with Windows Mobile 6, but this phone has raised my standards. Sony Ericsson announced tonight they are releasing a new phone called the EXPERIA X1.

Apart from the amazing exterior design of this phone, it is packed with not only a 3-inch touchscreen display, it has a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard to go along with it. Sheer genious. 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, WiFi, and microSD capabilities. As usual, replace the onboard broswer with Opera Mobile and it is good to go. ;p. This amazing phone will be release in the second half of this year.

    BlackBerry Pearl 8130

Overview from Blackberry.com: "The BlackBerry® Pearl™ 8130 smartphone is designed to help you do everything you want with your life. It comes complete with advanced phone features, multimedia, digital camera, video recording, built-in GPS* and expandable memory. And it offers the full BlackBerry® experience—email, browser, text messaging (SMS and MMS), instant messaging, organizer applications and more. Small, smart and stylish."

As far as I can tell, this is a better Pearl than previous ones. There have been slight updates to most aspects of the phone. One of the cool features this phone has is the SureType keyboard. It's similar to T9 for those of you who know what that is Amazingly, 99% of the time, it places the correct word. Another great feature this phone has is a REGULAR headphone jack. No need to buy a specialized set for this phone; any will work. There's standard Bluetooth capablity. As for the web browser, although it it better, I would recommend downloading my favorite phone internet browser, Opera Mini Web. GPS & video recording are two of the most important updates to this version. Compared to other smart phones, the 220 minutes of talk time is not very impressive. Price Range: $100-$150.

This video is courtesy of my friends at PhoneScoop.com

Their review videos are amazing. Enjoy.
